Heidi

Heidi
Spayed Female Miniature Schnauzer, Born November 2005

Heidi joined my family as a terrified and undersocialized 8 month old. We adopted her from the Calgary Humane Society. She was unsure about other dogs, scared of men, and extremely reactive on leash when she saw anything that moved. Heidi was able to overcome her fears by participating in a basic training course and learning agility combined with slow socialization. She needed a confident leader in her life and was able to learn from both myself and Russ.

Heidi loves to please and works hard to do her best. She has also had a few set backs due to medical issues. In January 2009 she was diagnosed with bladder stones and had to have surgery. Although she was cured physically Heidi still wasn't doing well. She struggled with depression after her surgery and we were having a hard time finding a diet that would keep her healthy. Heidi suffers from allergies to chicken, beef, lamb, goat, bison and pretty well every available protein besides fish. We went to visit Dr. Wanda Vockeroff at the Marda Loop Veterinary Clinic where Heidi was started on a home made fish based diet. She has happily maintained a great weight at 12lbs, her outlook improved and Heidi was back to herself. Sadly Heidi was diagnosed with more bladder stones in April 2012 and has had another surgery to correct the issue.

Heidi has had trouble recovering from her last surgery and has developed some anxiety concerns as a result. She has retired from dog sports as she has lost interest in practicing. Heidi still enjoys her daily walks and cuddling with her family members. At her age and health she is settling into the quiet life. Heidi still assists sometimes with training clients who have dogs that are reactive with small dogs. She's quite happy to eat her snacks while we work with the other dog. Heidi has been instrumental in helping many dogs over the years I've had her.
